I was walking on the side of the road it was very dusty and quiet. It was summer in southern Italy, almost six o'clock in the evening. A gentle breeze was in the air as I walked, holding my towel and phone in my hands. I could hear children playing in the distance. Some were building castles on the sand, while others were swimming with their parents.
I wanted to be alone, so I laid my towel a little far from the crowds. That was when I realized I had forgotten my sunglasses unbelievable! I didn't want to turn back, so I just lied down on my towel and closed my eyes. The warmth felt so good for a moment... until someone woke me up
.
He was talking on the phone. I didn't mean to overhear why he was so angry, but I had no choice. He was talking to his ex-girlfriend. From what I could gather, they had broken up four months ago. Now, she was calling to say she missed him and wanted him back. That was the part that made him so mad before he finally hung up.
"Can you believe that?" he said.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to listen to your conversation," I replied.
"No, no, it's okay," he said. "I'm the one who should apologize for disturbing you."
He starts explaining everything. "That was my ex. We broke up four months ago, and now she calls to say she misses me and wants me back. How can someone be so selfish? I was doing fine without her; I had moved on."
I listened quietly as he poured his heart out. He told me about where he grew up, his job, his family, and his friends. We talked for almost an hour, completely losing track of time. When we finally looked around, the beach was empty everyone had left.
"Oh my God, look at the time! We have to go," I said.
"Yes... but can we meet again?" he asked.
"Yes, I'll come back tomorrow morning. Wait for me here," I told him before heading back.
The most amazing thing was that we were staying at the exact same hotel! I was on the first floor, and he was on the ground floor. We shared a laugh about the coincidence before heading to our rooms. That night, I couldn't sleep at all. My mind kept replaying every single detail of our conversation.
The next morning, I woke up so excited to see him. After a quick breakfast, I rushed down to the beach, but he wasn't there. I swam for a long time, looking around, but there was still no sign of him. Disappointed and a little sad, I decided to walk back to the hotel.
As I walked into the hotel, there he was! "Oh no," I thought to myself.
He asked if we could eat lunch together, but something felt different he didn't seem excited to see me at all.
Dear readers, I will continue the rest of the story next week! Thank you for reading.
