Distance, Doubts, and an Unexpected Spar 3

After my vacation ended, I went back home to my normal routine. But even with the distance, he and I talked almost every hour.

We shared everything: "Did you eat?" , "What time do you go to work?" , "Goodnight." We would stay on the phone until I fell asleep. But after a while, the sweet calls began to shift. The questions became different: "Where are you?" , "Why didn't you tell me you were going out?" , "Why didn't you call?" Argument after argument became our new normal.

The Unexpected Visits

After six months, he told me he couldn't take it anymore he missed me too much, and that was why he was acting so tense. So, he booked a flight and came to see me.

He stayed at a local hotel, but life wasn't a vacation for me. I had to go to work every morning. While he slept in, I worked long shifts because we were short staffed. When I finished work, he would be waiting outside for me, and we would go out to eat or take a walk before the day ends.

Instead of enjoying our time, he was frustrated. He didn't understand why I couldn't just take a day off. After two weeks of tension, he flew back home.

The strange thing was, even though we were unhappy, I still missed him. If he didn't call, I would find myself calling him, asking where he was and why he hadn't reached out. Oddly enough, doing that actually made him happy he said it proved I was thinking about him.

Four months later, he visited again. But the heavy atmosphere remained. After a week, he went back home.

Flying Across the World

Back then, we didn't have WhatsApp or modern video calls like we do today. Calling internationally was extremely expensive.

One day, I missed his call and didn't pick up the phone. He spent the entire day trying to reach me, spiralling into frustration. The very next day, without telling me, he bought a flight ticket and flew straight to my city.

I had no idea he was coming until I walked outside my place and saw him standing there.

I was in absolute shock. We went back to his hotel, but instead of a romantic reunion, it turned into an interrogation: "Why didn't you pick up the phone?!" It was becoming too much for me. The constant pressure and control felt suffocating, and it seemed like he had no idea how his behaviour was affecting me. He stayed for a week and left once more.

The Spark at the Bus Stop

Not long after that, I was standing at the bus stop waiting to go home after a long day at work.

A guy I knew from work was standing nearby. We usually just said a polite hello to each other, but deep down, I had always felt a subtle connection to him something quiet that I couldn't quite explain.

He walked over to me, noticed the chill in the air, and asked if I wanted his jacket. Before I could even say yes, he gently placed it over my shoulders.

The moment his hand brushed against me, something electric happened. A feeling rushed straight from the top of my head all the way down to my toes. It was an overwhelming sensation I had never experienced before.

When my bus arrived, I handed his jacket back and stepped inside. That night, I couldn't sleep a wink. I lay in bed with a smile stuck on my face the entire night, wondering how a simple moment could change everything and deep down, I knew he felt it too.

To be continued in the next post...
